Getting a team of the right people.

Getting a team for tasks is not a new aspect to any project.

With a home to be built you need the concrete layer, the architect, the plumber, the builder, the electrician all separate skills yet one without the other means the house is not finished.  Now I used this as an example you will not see me building a house in the near future.

The point is simple, everyone that helped build the house had their skill.  Maybe the Builder could do some concrete laying but he still needed to buy the concrete and get it delivered.  It would be absolutely impossible to do a fast build without the skills available nor the person that drives the truck fill of cement is just as important and the builder.  No one gets undermined or undervalued in this concept.

I think of businesses on the Internet however it can be true for offline also.  For me my reality is an online business, so here it is.

I need the following skills:

Legal

Systems

Product Creation

Writing

Pod casting

Designers & graphics ( I was lucky one in the same person)

DJ

Musicians

Personal Development people

Health People

Business people.

Outgoing chatty people.

We can have some balance around some activities however it is important for any business to create balance and if you are determined to grow it larger than just you, the team you get together must be the right people.

Getting a team of the right people takes time.  Yes you can do hiring but even hiring will only tell you what is written on a piece of paper.  Synergy, creativity, life skills, social skills, and qualities are not written down there and once you have the skilled person you need the right mix.

I was fortunate to look over the work of James Knight, the Creator of What is your colour? Also implemented the system Ecademy uses for helpful networking.  Founder of IMA Strategies.

What interested me was we constructed a team of all of the colours without realising it at the time, so today I am giving you one tip that can make it faster for you.  Get one of each colours at least for your team, it creates balance and means the team will function well.  It also means you still have to talk and get to know the people but networking gives us this advantage.  Key players in a team should be a decision taken slowly and made with sound judgement.  It should not be focused on money, (however fully aware this does impact).

So I hope from me sharing this experience, you realise that getting a team of the right people is a slow process yet talking and asking them their passions/goals/skills are very helpful.  Find out what they dislike, also what they like.  Also you can fill every task you need in your business this way.  When you have a position needing to be fulled, think of what color you need for this adjustment and also think of what skills they have.  Then let them prove their skills.

One thing you must never forget when formulating a team, is a confidentiality agreement.  There are business topics that will need some delicacy and this should legally assist (some instances may need outsourced agreements and job contracts also) so make sure you do not rush as if you take your time and ascertain the right person  I am sure you will find that right person.

Once you have a team, let them know that they can speak up and speak their minds.  Explain you may not be able to action everything but you appreciate them taking the time to give their opinion.  (Very good on outsourcing agreements).  Also let them know when their work is great, if it is not let them know what they could improve on and the part that you did like (even if one point find a positive).

Valuing your team will always help this task, never ever take anyone for granted remember they are doing a task you do not have the time or the skill for.

How to manage when business gets busier.

When business grows it is a wonderful experience, it is all the hard work you have put in paying off and it makes you feel so good that you have done it.

The other side of that coin is busyness.  (not business)  Yes you get busy and busier.

So many wonder about getting scrambled, the brain going and leaving you behind, the jobs stacking up the stress mounting, it is no wonder not only does the business grow it gets even busier.  This I experienced and I stopped and took notes so I could share how I stopped the overwhelm before it got too much.

1)Networking would have to be my first most helpful thing I have done to help this.

Networking gave me an overall aspect of what people do around me and what they are like, also their strengths.

2)Listening to Social Media blog postings of good helpful blogs.

I found some resources on these type of blogs that one especially really helped at a time where I could not do some tasks, (or so I thought)

3)Working in a team, yes team work happens to be something that not everyone can do however the advantages surpass any inconveniences.  It works along side networking also as this networking and talking and listening to social media actually can help you find the best team to work with.  You see their work, you see their styles, you see it all and you can get a good overall aspect of there online presence.

4)Outsourcing or getting some Virtual Assistance.  This has been a real asset at times, one place I found on Fiverr and I have to say it has been really handy at times when I was stuck.  Sometimes it has been social media work, other times it has been an extra set of hands with one job.  You get aligned with people that you can test out for $5.00.  If you like there work then you have found someone worth using.  (Secretly it is quite a good way also to do upsells but that is another blog).  Also point worth noting, you do not have to hire permanent staff you can do it on a one off basis.  Very good for small business or new business.

5)Tools that speed up tasks.  Eg keywords, backlinking.

6)Social Media Management software  (you can automate some tasks)

Two points that I focused with these processes was:

So getting a team around me competent on tasks.

Getting help from those that can assist quickly can help.

As the type of person I am this is important to me.  (What is important to you?)

However one thing not in here is organisation.  I think being organised is crucial.  Have a method to enter all your appointments and deadlines, create priorities and give yourself some time where you do what you like doing.  Some jobs in business are just plain boring, so spice up days if you need to get through it.   Set times to get things done, and get your most horrible jobs done asap.

You ultimately are in control of your time, it is not science.  There is no special trick.  Think of what you really need to make your day flow and then get that type of focus to find the right person or the right tool.  As you can see you do not need special skills you just have to determine what it is you need right now to relieve some pressure.

This is what I did, one thing also is with this industry you must be focused on people and valuing them.  When someone does something great, let them know.

It is interesting to note and watch facebooks new developement in the term places.

To find this on your facebook profile it is quite simple.  Go to Account >> Account Settings

>>Find Notications>>Look to right of this page where it says View settings for:>>Find Places>>untick boxes if you do not want this data transmitted all over the internet.

This is one new development I would say not many would be familiar with, I have to admit it was not until my colleague Nicholas McIntosh told me that I knew.  One thing I know for myself is that I am ok with Country & grand city shared to a limit but for strangers I do not want them to see where I live.

Do you want everyone knowing where you live?

If not you go and untick the boxes and stay wise.  It is not very nice when they spring these things on us with no warning but it is great we are in control.

Setting up your marketing for an online radio

Not sure if any of you have ever thought of radio for your branding, your exposure.   I tend to think if people know your name that is a big start.

I quite often find myself going to a person I know before anyone else, are you the same?

So for those that already have a radio advertisement out there lets chalk up some ideas, information and debate going into this topic.

The perfect Radio Marketing would consist of the following.

1  x 30 sec radio advertisement primarily for promoting show on channel it is playing this lets visitors on those days know of your show.

1 x Show demonstrating Content in your expertise.

1 x Page creating a special offer for your listeners, something to make them take action!

Using social media to get social proof and comments, this is a great way to build yourself up on any promotion and Radio is very similar.

Many that do a show, love to set up updates of upcoming shows & interviews this is a wonderful way to have repeat listeners and build rep or.  Remember it is radio, much like any other online method it will take a while and a lot of consistency to build your trust & rep or.  You have this with those that have known you some time and also it requires you do the same here to build this level with a radio audience.  Include them in your discussions and create a bit of anticipation.  You can definitely make this stretch a lot further than just having a chat on radio, it is a strategy and it must be taken seriously.

Remember when you were taught email marketing, most people will start taking action on your 7th email.  Radio needs the same thought process with this type of marketing.  Also take a look at how others are doing it that are successful at it.  It is wonderful to learn of those that are really doing it daily and getting great responses.  The internet is evolving rapidly we have to keep up with new trends & ways to educate our audiences.
